Career Navigator: Kickstart Your Career Journey

Use for: Mandatory Career Readiness Course Required in First Year at USF

USF is invested in your future and making sure you are career-ready when you graduate. With the support of the Florida Board of Governors and the USF Board of Trustees, the Center for Career & Professional Development has developed a program to start preparing you early in your university experience. This Canvas course will engage you in the career development process and career readiness competencies in your first year, in addition to showing you valuable resources to help you along the way. The Center for Career & Professional Development is here to help you explore career and internship options and develop a plan to position you for lifelong career success.

The Career Navigator: Kickstart Your Career Journey will get you started and build a foundation for your success both in and out of the classroom. This is a requirement for all incoming undergraduate students. Please note that a CS Hold will be placed on your account in the second semester after enrollment if this course is not completed. This hold will prevent registering for new courses or dropping existing courses and will only be released by completing the course.

Kickstart Your Career Journey!

Step 1: Set aside some time to complete the course early in your first year. Log into Canvas via my.usf.edu and find the Career Navigator course on your dashboard.

Step 2: Review the course content and complete the activities.

The course features two content modules with activities that have been developed to give you the best foundation as you begin your career development journey. You will also be introduced to several career resources including:

  • Handshake: USF’s student job and internship search platform
  • Focus 2: Platform that helps you explore your personal attributes for in-depth career and major exploration
  • Career Readiness Competencies: Learn what future employers are looking for and how to align that with the job, internship, and/or research experience you gain during your college years
  • MyFloridaFuture: State website with employment info and estimated salaries associated with degree programs 1-5-10 years out of college

Step 3: Complete the final quiz attesting to have explored the resources discussed.

Step 4: Add “Visit the Center for Career & Professional Development” to your to-do list this semester to meet our team, sign up for events, and get ready to Grab Your Future by the Horns!

If you currently have a CS Hold (Career Services Hold) that is preventing you from registering, follow these steps to have it removed.

Step 1: Log into Canvas via my.usf.edu and find the Career Readiness Module 22-23 or 23-24 on your dashboard. It may be located at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Review the course content and complete the activities.

Step 3: Complete the final quiz attesting to have explored the resources discussed.

Step 4: Check your Grade and verify that it shows 100% in your assignments. If now, return to the final quiz and make sure it is submitted.

Once complete, the hold will automatically be lifted within 6 hours.
