The Center for Career and Professional Development hosts a variety of workshops and events throughout the year that all students are welcome to attend. We are also happy to lead career development workshops for faculty, student clubs/organizations, or any USF department hosting an event for USF students.
Request Guidelines:
- Presentations must take place Monday through Friday
- Requests for any of our common workshops (see list below) must be submitted at least two weeks before the date of the event
- Requests for uniquely tailored workshops must be submitted at least four weeks before the date of the event
- Workshops are typically 30 to 60 minutes long
- Requests are scheduled on a first-come, first serve basis

In this session, students will understand what the Center for Career & Professional Development (CCPD) offers during college and after graduation. Students will learn who we are, what we do, the programs and services we offer, and how we help facilitate their career journey.

- Gain knowledge of general job search and career exploration tools
- How CCPD can support students in gaining career-related experiences

This presentation will help students explore the career options connected with a specific major.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn how to use “What Can I Do With This Major” to identify careers and common employers associated with their major or majors of interest.
- Identify strategies from the What Can I Do With This Major? resource to use in their own career engagement strategy.
- Understand how resources (O*Net, My Florida Future, Labor Market Trends, Candid Career) can help them expand their knowledge of careers and job outlook/growth.
- Understand how to use networking strategies such as information interviews to continue exploring careers of interest.

Choosing a major is one of the most important career decisions you will encounter as you work through the career journey process. This choice is important, exciting, and can be challenging to navigate. We have developed tools and services to help you evaluate the various career paths of interest and build an action plan to help you make a career decision.

- Utilize Focus 2 interest assessment to increase awareness of interests as they relate to academic and career decision-making.
- Know how to continue exploring careers through use of USF tools, gaining relevant experiences and information interviews.
- Leave with clear next steps toward choosing a major or career direction.

This presentation will help students create a professional brand online and network effectively.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn different ways of networking and expanding your existing network
- Learn how to develop professional branding platforms such as LinkedIn, Handshake, and Portfolios
- Develop strategies for building an elevator pitch and requesting an informational interview
- Implement best practices for growing a professional online presence

In this presentation, students will understand the purpose, process, and value of a resume and cover letter. At the conclusion of this session, students will know the proper content, style and format for resume development and cover letter writing.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn the components needed to create a strong resume or CV that is ATS-compliant
- Understand how to tailor resumes and cover letters based on job descriptions
- Understand how to ethically use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in your application materials

Start early, start now! Understanding the job search process is a critical step in the college career exploration and development process. This presentation will guide students in the process of searching for internships and full-time positions while learning effective strategies that are essential in navigating the job search process.
Learning Objectives:
- Apply Career Exploration strategies to identify job opportunities that are aligned with their work interests and long-term career goals.
- Utilize USF resources including Handshake and Careershift, and know how to use them for the job search and networking process.
- Apply practical strategies for overcoming common challenges encountered during the job and internship search process

Before an event, you want to be well prepared. In this workshop, students will also learn how to prepare for events, how to research organizations, ways to engage with employers and recruiters, and tips for making a positive impact before, during, and after the event.

- Learn about the benefits of attending career fairs, networking events, and similar opportunities
- Discover best practices for before, during, and after career events
- Develop a growth mindset and professional approaches for following up with employers and other industry professionals

Students will learn interviewing techniques, tips, and strategies that will leave a lasting positive impression when interviewing for part-time, full-time, internship, volunteer, or extracurricular positions.

- Understand interview logistics and best practices before, during, and after an interview
- Learn the STAR(LA) method and strategies for answering different categories of interview questions
- Become familiar with CCPD interviewing appointments, software, and additional resources

In this session, you will learn how to navigate negotiating salary. As the job search process progresses, sooner or later, the discussion about money with an employer will evolve. Understanding the salary range, your desired salary, identifying your minimum requirements, your experiences, and how all of this aligns with your qualifications for the position will be integral in negotiating your salary package.

- Learn why salary negotiation matters and how to better understand the offer
- Understand how to benchmark, set your salary range, and explore other negotiable factors
- Gain skills for countering, accepting, or declining an offer

The CCPD offers a variety of ways to infuse career content into courses. If you have a distance education section, our on-demand workshops may be an better solution. These 30-60 minute recorded presentations align with our in-person presentations and are work well for hybrid or distance education courses.

These engaging and interactive modules provide content, activities, and assignments using CCPD platforms and AI technology for assessment.
