Parents and Families
Watching someone you love transition into college can bring on both pride and concern. You likely recall the excitement you felt at that age and remember how lost you may have felt. Your student is likely feeling the same way as they begin their self-discovery and career exploration which takes time.
The Center for Career & Professional Development offers a variety of services, programs, and resources to support your student throughout their time at USF. We want your student to be successful at USF and beyond and will be here to help along the way.
Supporting Your Student
Your student may still be in your house or may be far from home. Either way, you still play an important role in his or her career decisions. It is not surprising that studies show that children are heavily influenced by parental views and expectations about careers. Use this influence to encourage your student to explore new things and visit our office and events early.
Our career coaches are available to meet with your students and answer questions to support students with everything from assessing competencies and career readiness, writing a resume or cover letter, and exploring careers and majors to finding internships and jobs and preparing for interviews. If they are not one to reach out for support, encourage them to attend one of our many career workshops throughout the semester.
We invite you to look through our website to get a full picture of the programs and resources we offer and sign up for a newsletter to stay up to date on any events or career trends.
