The Southwest Ohio Pollution Prevention (P2) Internship Program is a summer internship program that pairs student interns with companies in Adams, Clermont, Hamilton, and Butler counties seeking new and innovative approaches to environmental efficiency and conservation. Currently, we are accepting intern applicants for Milacron, which is our 2026 host company in Clermont County.

About Milacron:

Milacron is a global leader in the manufacture, distribution and service of highly engineered and customized systems within the $27 billion plastic technology and processing industry. We are the only global company with a full-line product portfolio that includes hot runner systems, injection molding, extrusion equipment. We maintain strong market positions across these products, as well as leading positions in process control systems, mold bases and components, maintenance, repair and operating (“MRO”) supplies for plastic processing equipment. Our strategy is to deliver highly customized equipment, components and service to our customers throughout the lifecycle of their plastic processing technology systems.

Intern Responsibilities:

The intern will be given responsibilities that will assist their learning and experience in implementing pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives and will be required to attend a two-day pollution prevention training course prior to the start of site-specific project work.

The Milacron supervisor will train the intern on site specific, local, state, and federal requirements to ensure this project is completed effectively. The supervisor will also train the intern on the clauses of ISO 14001 and how they relate to Milacron’s Environmental Management System.

The intern will evaluate Milacron waste streams, profile them properly, and assist with identifying waste reduction opportunities and compliant disposal processes. The intern will create work instructions for new process implemented in accordance with Milacron’s ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System.

Intended project outcomes are below:

• Utilize waste reports to track waste and establish baselines.

• Identify waste reduction opportunities and set targets and objectives.

• Monitor recycling reports and analyze data from recycling vendors.

• Review waste metrics monthly.

• Utilize the waste hierarchy to evaluate feasible waste management methods.

• Implementation of waste management process improvements.

• Implementation environmental work instructions/visual aids/training in accordance with process changes

Requirements:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with at least two years of undergraduate education completed
  • Desired majors include: Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Science and Studies, Business and Communication, or other majors related Sustainability
  • Commit to working full-time for 12 weeks from May until August
  • Provide own housing and transportation

Additional Desirable Skills:

Applicant should have an interest in managing compliance of environmental regulations, policies and procedures and a working knowledge of environmental, health, and sustainability principles. Must be detail orientated and possess a proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, follow-up and follow-through.

Proficiency with computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and the ability to utilize computer technology to research online, prepare reports, access data and maintain records is required.

Applicant should also have an interest in gaining knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to environmental, health, and sustainability. Applicants should have the ability to use creative problem solving to recognize and analyze needs and propose solutions effectively.

Work Setting:

The intern will be expected to work onsite at Milacron Global Headquarters in Batavia with the opportunity to work at the Mt. Orab site based on project needs. This will allow the intern to have exposure to waste streams created in both the assembly and machining process. Milacron will provide resources and education to teach the intern about the waste streams generated from machining and assembly of injection and extrusion molding machines. Milacron will provide internal and external resources for the intern to assist with waste identification and reduction activities.

Milacron will provide a workstation, laptop, and desk phone. Milacron will also provide proper PPE for the intern.

Position requires work in a plant/manufacturing environment, indoor and outdoor conditions. Environment may include fluctuations in temperature, dust and noise. Required PPE includes safety glasses, safety toe shoes and hearing protection in addition to other specific PPE that must be worn for specific tasks.

Must be able to reach, grasp, handle, bend, kneel, sit, climb and stoop. Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Drug screen and background check will be required.

Hourly Pay:

  • $17 per hour
