Job Summary:
UT Health San Antonio is broadening its reach in clinical care with the opening of the new UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty & Research Hospital. This eight-story 144-bed facility will offer uninterrupted patient care in one location within San Antonio, TX, the 7th largest city in the U.S.
The Cellular Therapy Processing Laboratory Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the processing and production of cellular therapy products, ensuring compliance with quality standards, protocols, and regulatory requirements. In collaboration with Medical Directors and other management team members, this position involves managing a team of technologists, coordinating workflow, and maintaining accurate records of processes and outcomes.
Job Duties:
- Supervise and lead a team of stem cell processing technologists, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the processing of cellular therapy products (minimal manipulation only), adhering to regulatory guidelines and best practices.
- Implement, validate, and help maintain cellular therapy processing software.
- Coordinate the day-to-day processing operations, including minimal manipulation procedures and quality control checks.
- Monitor and maintain equipment and facilities required for cellular therapy processing, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to safety protocols.
- Collaborate with medical directors and clinical teams to optimize and validate processing protocols, ensuring consistent product quality and yield.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all processing activities, including product records, protocols, and quality control data.
- Participate in regulatory inspections and audits, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., FACT, FDA, CAP, AABB).
- Troubleshoot technical issues, deviations, and unexpected outcomes in cellular therapy processing, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Stay updated on advancements in cellular therapy technologies and processing techniques, incorporating innovative methods to enhance productivity and product quality.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the processing team.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Biology, Biotechnology, Cell Biology) is required.
Six (6) years of progressive experience in a CAP/CLIA accredited clinical laboratory is required.
Two (2) years of supervisory experience is preferred.
Hands-on experience with cellular therapy processing.
Experience in blood bank/transfusion service, preferred
Skills:
Understanding of regulatory requirements and quality control standard in cellular therapy product production.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and data analysis tools.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.

Benefits Overview

Retirement- Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year plus three floating holidays, which can be used anytime during the fiscal year.
