Engaged Student Employee: Professional Development Badging Program
Use to: Provide Professional Development for Students
The Engaged Student Employment (ESE) program represents a new approach to ensure our on-campus undergraduate student employees develop the essential skills employers look for when hiring recent college graduates. ESE will change how USF recruits and retains student employees, how we engage them on the job, and how they build and reflect on their experiences, while also creating greater access to meaningful experiences for students right here on the USF campus. This Canvas-based program will allow student employees to participate in LinkedIn Learning videos, give time to reflect on what they learned through reflection summaries, and have opportunities to participate in engaging workshops and numerous activities. Upon completion of the ESE program, an Engaged Student Employment Badge digital badge will be awarded.

Each module in the course will be through the NACE Career Readiness Competencies which will outline your path through the ESE model program:

Benefits for Student Employees:
- The ESE provides a direct impact on professional growth, allowing students to persist toward graduation in a timely manner
- Provides on-campus experiential learning opportunities, benefiting students who may not be able to travel off-campus for employment
- Helps students learn about the essential skills employers look for in applicants, connect their on-campus activities to their career, and demonstrate their professional development obtained with a digital badge
Benefits for Supervisors
- Creates a clear model to act as an educator and a change agent within the student experience at USF
- Broadens the management style of supervisors by providing the opportunity to become leaders, coaches, and mentors to their student employees
- Studies show that students who are engaged on campus and in their work are more likely to be retained and persist to graduation
- Encourages intentional, one-on-one conversation between supervisors and their student employees, facilitating a more fulfilling experience for both parties
