The College of Arts and Science’s Department of Geosciences is hiring a Federal Work Study Student to fulfill the following duties for a specialist position:
- Set up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests, analysis, or processes and any other equipment as necessary.
- Dispense to instructors the chemicals, equipment and any material needed by the students during teaching periods of lab classes.
- Maintain proper hygiene of the lab workspace (stockroom area). This process will include but is not limited to washing glassware, cleaning benches, dusting surfaces, maintaining cleanliness of equipment, Dispose in the proper location of any secondary shipping materials (paper, cardboard, foam etc.) Assist with keeping supplies, materials and equipment clean, organized and ready for use.
- Store and organize chemicals and equipment in their designated location.
- Observe the safety rules and regulation approved by the University; this includes frequent vigilance of the assigned teaching laboratories. Communicate with the instructor and lab manager any anomaly or misbehavior of students and report any cases where safety rules are not corrected.
- Attend mandatory lab meetings and perform any other duties related to the laboratories as approved and assigned by the teaching chemistry lab manager.
This appointment will be for 20 hours per week. Must have FWS Award in order to be eligible for this position and must be able to provide a copy of award.
