The Eileen Hoffman Hafer UMatter is an innovative inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) program created to provide young people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to experience higher education and campus life. We are hiring academic and residential mentors to work with our students!
As a mentor, you will empower and inspire our participants, fostering meaningful connections and guiding them on their academic and personal journeys. Academic Mentor responsibilities include:
• Semester long commitment meeting with UMatter student at least twice per week for a minimum of three hours total.
• Check-in with their mentees to ensure they are completing weekly assigned mathematics and reading practice, assist with breaking down assignments and preparing for assessments.
• Meet with students to provide academic tutoring and support in their University of South Florida courses.
• Collaborate with UMatter staff
• Provide direct and concrete directions for study strategies, annotating, task analysis, checking emails, completing classes assignments, note taking, and following a schedule.
Life Mentor responsibilities include:
• Provide direct and concrete directions for basic living skills including but not limited to: Doing the dishes, laundry, brushing your teeth, keeping up with personal grooming, keeping a clean space, eating healthy, etc.
• Seven to ten hours per week as agreed by mentor and mentee.
• Provide independent living support (following a schedule, self-care, social skills, nutrition, time management, etc.) within the residential and USFSP facilities.
• Daily check-ins with their assigned mentee (once in the morning and once in the afternoon or evening) May be a combination of in-person or phone/text-based communication.
