USF St. Petersburg Fitness Center Assistant Job Description
Title: Fitness Center Assistant
Reports To: Fitness Coordinator of Campus Recreation, Emmitt Yale
Weekly Hours: 5-20
Pay Rate: $13.00/hour
Position Summary
This position serves as a part-time member of the Campus Recreation staff. The primary purpose of this position is to perform the day-to-day tasks required to keep the Fitness Center Facility safe and clean. Fitness Center Assistants (FCAs) are responsible for prevention and response to unsafe or potentially harmful situations, cleaning the fitness equipment, providing members with excellent customer service, selling memberships and day passes, checking out equipment to members, managing facility access, communicating information and needs with Fitness Center Team Leads and Campus Recreation professional staff, as well as meeting any needs that might arise within the Fitness Center. Shifts range from 3-4 ½ hours in length, and each FCA is required to work at least 2 shifts per week in order to remain on the schedule.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Completion of the Fitness Center day-to-day tasks in a timely and efficient manner
· Timeliness for all assigned shifts, meetings, and/or scheduled training
· Attendance at all mandatory meetings required for FCA’s and/or all Campus Recreation staff
· Assisting members with needs and questions regarding Campus Recreation programs and services
· Membership sales and equipment checkout
· Supervision of safety with equipment and machines use
· Basic cleaning, upkeep and maintenance of machines, equipment and the fitness floor
Minimum Qualifications and Educational Requirements
· Ability to maintain 5-20 hours per week and the ability to work early mornings, nights, and weekends as needed.
· Be enrolled at the University of South Florida
· Quality customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work cohesively in a team environment
· Positive energy and welcoming demeanor
· Basic-level knowledge of fitness equipment use
Preferred Qualifications
· CPR/AED and First Aid Certified or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date.
What a shift as an FCA looks like:
-Arrive at the fitness center 5-10 min before the shift starts
-Spend first and third hour of shift at the front desk
-Greet patrons, monitor swipe access via fusion
-Sell memberships/locker, day passes CR programs using fusion software
-Complete Laundry as needed
-Complete facility counts
-Ensure patrons are adhering and following ALL fitness center policies
-Check and respond to CR email as needed
-Clean front desk area and cardio area
-Act as gatekeeper for professional staff members
-Answer phone calls and transfer to the appropriate staff member
-Spend 2nd and 4th hour of shift on fitness floor
-Clean and detail fitness equipment thought the facility (daily cleaning task list)
-Re-rack weights as needed and ensure our facility is clean and ready for use
-Enforce all facility policies including dress code etc.
-Educate patrons when needed where equipment is placed and how to use
Misc.
-Shifts are 4-5 hours in length
-Can work anywhere from 4-29 hours per week (if you do not have another on campus job)
-You are allotted one paid 15 min break per 4-hour shift (If you work a double, you get a 30 min break)
-You are encouraged to communicate with patrons and make them feel welcome in our facility
-There are opportunities throughout the year for additional event /tabeling shifts
-You are required to attend monthly in-service meetings (usually on Sunday evenings), they are paid and an about an hour in length
