Deputy Financial Officer – Student Government (SG), USF St. Petersburg
Position Overview:
The Deputy Financial Officer (DFO) is a responsible paraprofessional role within Student Government (SG), working under the guidance of the SG Advisor/Supervisor to ensure financial accountability and compliance with university policies. The DFO plays a critical role in financial oversight, supporting clubs, student organizations, and A&S-funded entities while ensuring adherence to Title 8 finance code and SG purchasing procedures.
This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to ethical financial management. The DFO will work closely with student organizations, SG branches, and the purchasing department to facilitate financial transactions and budget oversight.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Serve as a financial resource to Student Government entities, student organizations, and Student Success departments at USF St. Petersburg.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, including procurement and reimbursement policies.
- Meet with clubs and organizations to review funding procedures, guidelines, and financial expectations.
- Oversee purchasing procedures and ensure that both internal and external entities comply with policies.
- Coordinate with the purchasing department to ensure timely ordering of approved items.
- Track and manage SG financial records, maintaining an organized spreadsheet for SG finances, club allocations, and expenditures.
- Maintain and review all SG accounts and A&S-funded budgets on campus.
- Submit and process purchase requests for the USF St. Petersburg SG Executive Branch.
- Assist the Deputy Chief of Staff with financial-related duties and provide administrative support when needed.
- Ensure that financial decisions align with SG’s mission and goals.
- Assist in identifying potential funding sources and revenue-generating opportunities.
- Assist the SG Advisor in managing SG accounts and financial reconciliation.
- Support SG initiatives & programs, ensuring fiscal responsibility in event planning and budgeting.
- Attend all Special Funding, Appropriations, and Campus Council meetings of the SG Legislative Branch.
- Adhere to guidance and oversight from the SG Advisor/Supervisor to ensure accountability and professional development.
Qualifications & Education Requirements:
✅ Must be a USF St. Petersburg home campus student.
✅ Must be in good academic standing (minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA for undergraduates, 3.0 GPA for graduate students).
✅ Must be actively enrolled for at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 4 credit hours (graduate) during fall and spring semesters.
✅ Must not be under current disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion.
✅ Must demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability.
✅ Must be able to think critically and logically in complex financial situations.
✅ Gain an understanding of the SG Constitution, Statutes, and funding policies as they relate to fiscal matters.
✅ Preferred experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting.
✅ Preferred experience in conflict resolution and working in diverse cultural settings.
✅ Preferred experience working within a team-oriented environment.
✅ Must be proactive, take initiative, and develop strategic financial goals for SG operations.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based role with occasional travel within the Tampa Bay area for SG meetings and conferences.
- Travel accommodations will be arranged by Student Government when applicable.
- Position requires approximately 15 hours per week.
