Coordinator of Events – Student Government (SG), USF St. Petersburg
About the Role:
USF St. Pete students! We are looking for a well-rounded paraprofessional to join Student Government as the Coordinator of Events. This role is perfect for an organized, creative, and student-focused leader who wants to develop professional skills in event planning, collaboration, and leadership. The Coordinator of Events is responsible for coordinating, planning, and executing events for the student body, ensuring that SG provides meaningful and engaging programming throughout the semester.
This role requires strategic thinking, collaboration with campus partners, and strong organizational skills to develop impactful events that enhance student life. The Coordinator will work with student clubs, organizations, and university departments to foster event partnerships and provide resources to ensure the success of campus-wide initiatives.
This position is more than just planning events—it is about building community, connecting students with leadership, and creating opportunities for engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and propose event ideas that align with SG’s mission and enhance student engagement.
- Plan, execute, and oversee SG signature events such as SG’s Beginning/End of Year Pool Party, Football Season events, tabling initiatives, and more.
- Foster partnerships and collaborations with clubs, organizations, and campus departments by co-planning events and ensuring SG involvement.
- Manage event logistics, including but not limited to venue selection, catering, equipment rental, transportation, and setup.
- Coordinate with the Deputy Financial Officer (DFO) to manage event budgets, ensuring all expenses align with SG’s financial policies.
- Work with SG’s Marketing & Graphic Design team to promote events via social media, flyers, newsletters, and other marketing strategies.
- Plan and execute events that connect students with SG leaders, including meet & greets, SG office hangouts, and town hall-style discussions.
- Assist in the oversight of major SG initiatives and ongoing programs.
- Establish recurring SG events that build community and increase transparency between SG and the student body.
- Lead post-event evaluations to analyze successes and identify areas for improvement.
- Regularly attend SG Cabinet meetings (schedule to be determined by cabinet members) and participate in Campus Council meetings.
- Support and represent SG at campus-wide initiatives and programs.
- Other duties as assigned to fulfill the mission of the SG Executive Branch and Cabinet.
Qualifications & Requirements:
✅ Must be in good academic standing (minimum cumulative institutional GPA: 2.5 for undergraduates, 3.0 for graduate students).
✅ Must be actively enrolled for at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 4 credit hours (graduate) during fall and spring semesters.
✅ Must not be under current disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion.
✅ Must be able to maintain professionalism and ethical conduct.
✅ Must be able to think critically and solve problems effectively.
✅ Preferred experience in conflict management and diverse cultural settings.
✅ Preferred experience working in a team-oriented environment.
✅ Preferred experience in event planning, organizational management, and working in an office setting.
✅ Must be proactive and able to set and achieve strategic goals.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily in an office setting.
- May require travel within the Tampa Bay area and between USF campuses for SG meetings and conferences. All travel accommodations will be arranged by SG when applicable.
- This role averages 7-8 hours per week.
