Chief of Staff – Student Government
Position Overview:
The Chief of Staff is a senior leadership role within Student Government (SG), responsible for overseeing and managing day-to-day operations while ensuring smooth and effective execution of initiatives. This role requires a responsible paraprofessional who can provide strategic leadership, organization, and coordination while working closely with the Campus Governor, Executive Cabinet, and Student Government Advisor/Supervisor.
The Chief of Staff serves as a key liaison between Student Government, university administration, and student organizations, ensuring that policies, initiatives, and operations align with SG’s mission and the needs of the student body.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the Campus Governor and Executive Cabinet on Student Government operations, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee implementation of SG’s strategic plan and goals to ensure alignment with its mission and vision.
- Coordinate and oversee the work of SG committees, ensuring they meet objectives and deadlines.
- Manage internal communications, including updates between branches, meeting coordination, and progress tracking.
- Oversee SG’s communication efforts, including social media, website content, and outreach materials in collaboration with the Marketing team.
- Represent Student Government in meetings with university administration, faculty, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure SG members fulfill their responsibilities and adhere to policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Serve as a liaison between SG and student organizations, campus departments, and community groups.
- Schedule and lead bi-weekly Cabinet meetings, including agenda preparation and branch updates.
- Coordinate hiring processes for System Executive Branch personnel.
- Support and assist with SG initiatives, programs, and key events.
- Adhere to guidance and oversight from the Student Government Advisor/Supervisor to ensure accountability and professional development.
Requirements:
✔️ Be enrolled in and complete at least 9 credit hours per semester
✔️ Maintain a 2.5 GPA at the time of application and strive for a 2.8 GPA for the duration of the term
✔️ Attend 100% of required retreats and trainings
✔️ Attend 100% of required official meetings
✔️ Attend 100% of required events and activities
✔️ Meet and not exceed required office hours
Qualifications & Education Requirements:
✅ Must be in good academic standing (minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA for undergraduates, 3.0 GPA for graduate students).
✅ Must be actively enrolled for at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 4 credit hours (graduate) during fall and spring semesters.
✅ Must not be under current disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion.
✅ Must demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability.
✅ Must be able to think critically and logically in complex situations.
✅ Preferred experience in conflict resolution and working in diverse cultural settings.
✅ Preferred experience working within a team-oriented environment.
✅ Preferred experience in organizational management and administrative work.
✅ Must be proactive, take initiative, and develop strategic goals for SG operations.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based role with occasional travel within the Tampa Bay area for SG meetings and conferences.
- Travel accommodations will be arranged by Student Government when applicable.
- Position requires approximately 7-10 hours per week.
