Summer 2025 TSE – Housing Assistance Team (HAT) Member
ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY
Housing and Residential Education (HRE) has the capacity to house approximately 1,000 residential students on the USF St. Petersburg campus in three residential facilities. Our department intentionally creates a residential learning environment where residential students can be successful at the university and in the community.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides support to the housing operations within the Housing and Residential Education department during the summer term in preparation for the upcoming academic year. Housing Assistant Team Members (HATS) are responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and labor-intensive projects within the St. Petersburg residence halls. HATs must be able to work in various positions and work a consistent schedule of up to 20 hours Monday – Friday.
All shifts will be in-person on the St. Petersburg Campus, mostly in Osprey Suites (OSP) or Pelican Apartments (PEL).
Students will be compensated with a Summer 2025 room assignment on the St. Petersburg campus and a meal plan for the full Summer AB term.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Housing Assistant Team Members must be current University of South Florida students and will be registered for at least one summer course over the 2025 term.
Students must be able to work up to 20 hours a week during business hours (8 AM to 5 PM, Monday – Friday when the University is open). This schedule must be consistent week to week.
Applicants must also be in good standing with Student Conduct and Ethical Development. If an applicant is currently involved in a conduct case with a pending decision or becomes involved in an alleged conduct violation, their employment will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
These requirements will be verified at the time of application and appointment.
EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be able to work effectively in a team environment and take individual initiative.
- Present a positive appearance and demeanor to residents and guests.
- Move furniture, mattresses, and other oversized items within and around the residence halls.
- Complete walkthroughs of hallways, lounges, and residential spaces within each residence hall checking for damages, maintenance, and furniture concerns.
- Assist with the preparation of all residential spaces for the upcoming academic year.
- Test and verify key codes and functionality for all residential spaces
- Verify, update, and organize storage inventories.
- Actively participate in staff training and scheduled meetings.
- Sort and deliver mail and packages to appropriate mail centers within the residence halls.
- Establish effective and ongoing communication with the professional and paraprofessional staff in the office via email, Microsoft Teams, and in-person.
- Assist with check-in and check-out processes for students and campus and conferences.
- Complete necessary forms and reports, such as shift documentation, housing rosters, work orders, call logs, and lockout charges.
- Report all maintenance concerns to professional staff and via the maintenance request form.
- Post notices and maintain bulletin boards throughout the residence hall lobbies.
- Assist with set-up and break-down processes for HRE events.
- Assist with moving and removing furniture, mattresses, and other oversized items within and around the residence halls.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with a team member.
- Help with general office filing and other administrative tasks such as answering phones, taking messages, and mail receiving and distribution.
- Assist future residents in the housing application process, which includes the process of applying, canceling, requesting a room change, and other questions.
- Be prepared and available to assist residents and guests with housing and to direct them to other areas of campus life.
- Uphold and enforce all University and Residential Education policies and procedures.
- Assist with other relevant duties as assigned.
